The “Go for The Green” Food Drive is a unique opportunity for schools, businesses and organizations to combat hunger in our community. For the past 28 years, the Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee has sponsored this drive in conjunction with Harvesters. Price Chopper has joined in the effort by hosting food collection barrels in each of their stores.
Here are the 4 ways to donate:
1. At Your School
Many area high school and middle schools participate each year. The school that receives the most donations wins:
- Free entry into the 2014 Parade
- A traveling trophy
- The right to host the 2014 Kick-Off Party
2. Through a Business or Organization
This is the third year we have encouraged businesses and organizations in the community to participate as well. The winner of this competition has their name engraved on a trophy on display year-round at the Irish Center in Union Station.
These participants may have a barrel at their location, but you can always donate on behalf of your selected business or organization online.
3. At area Price Chopper stores
While you are out shopping at Price Chopper, please remember to donate any of these items:
- canned vegetables
- canned fruit
- boxed meals
- canned meat
- peanut butter
- canned soup
- personal care products

4. Donate Online
You can donate online through the Virtual Food Drive. Here you can select which school, business, or organization you would like your donation to be credited to.
A donation of just $1 provides 5 meals for the hungry in our community.
